FlayrBooth Setup Guide: Configuring Your First Event
Everything you need to configure your first event in FlayrBooth — from setting the event name and branding to choosing capture modes and customising the welcome screen. Takes about 10 minutes.
Before You Start
Make sure FlayrBooth is installed and your trial or license is active. See our installation guide if you haven't done this yet.
Step 1: Open the Operator Dashboard
The Operator Dashboard is the control centre for your event. From here you configure every aspect of the booth.
Keyboard shortcuts to open the dashboard:

Ctrl + Alt + D

Cmd + Alt + D
or Cmd + Shift + D
If a PIN is set on the dashboard, you'll be prompted to enter it. On a fresh install, no PIN is required so the dashboard opens immediately.

Step 2: Configure Event Details
Go to the Event Setup tab. This is where you set up everything guests see and interact with.
✏️ Event Name
Enter the event name exactly as you want it displayed on the welcome screen. For example: “Sarah & Tom's Wedding” or “Acme Corp Christmas Party 2026”. This appears prominently on the welcome screen and in the guest's photo download page.
🔐 Operator PIN (Recommended)
Set a 4-digit PIN to prevent unauthorised access to the dashboard. Without a PIN, anyone who knows the keyboard shortcut can change settings during an event. Write down your PIN and keep it somewhere safe.
⚠️ If you forget your PIN, go to the System tab → Reset Settings. This clears the PIN but also resets all event settings. Export your config first if possible.
🎨 Theme & Accent Colour
- Light or Dark mode — choose the overall theme. Dark mode works well in dimly lit event spaces; light mode is better for bright venues. The app persists your choice across restarts.
- Accent colour — choose from five colour presets (Indigo, Emerald, Rose, Amber, Ocean) or set a custom hex value. Light and dark modes each have their own accent colour. This colour is used for buttons, highlights, mode cards, and throughout the guest interface.
- Changes apply immediately and persist across app restarts.
Step 3: Choose Capture Modes
In the Event Setup tab, scroll to the Capture Modessection. You'll see all five modes with toggle switches.
📷 Photo
Always onHigh-quality still image. Supports single shot or burst (multiple frames in quick succession). Every event needs this.
🎬 Video
HD video clip (H.264, 1080p @ 30fps). Great for greetings, performances, and messages. Duration is configurable.
🐢 Slow-Mo / 360°
High-frame-rate capture with cinematic slow-motion playback and soundtrack support. Best for action shots and dramatic moments.
🎞️ GIF
Short burst encoded as an animated looping GIF. Perfect for fun, shareable moments that guests love posting on social media.
🪃 Boomerang
Short clip that plays forward then backward in a seamless loop. Similar to Instagram Boomerang.
Per-Mode Defaults
Each mode has its own settings that you can adjust:
- Countdown duration — how long guests wait before capture (0, 3, 5, or 10 seconds). Setting 0 removes the countdown entirely.
- Burst count — number of photos taken in burst mode (1 to 8 shots). Set to 1 to disable burst.
- Video duration — maximum recording time (3 to 60 seconds). Default is 10 seconds.
Single-Mode Events
If you enable only one capture mode, guests skip the mode selection screen entirely and go straight to capture. This is great for simple setups like a photo-only kiosk.
🎵 Slow-Mo / 360° Configuration
When Slow-Mo / 360° mode is enabled, you get additional configuration options:
- Reverse mode — enable forward+reverse looping for a boomerang-style slow-motion effect.
- Soundtrack — upload an MP3, WAV, or AAC backing track. Adjust volume (0–100%) and choose mic behaviour (replace, mix with music, or keep mic only).
- Pre-roll / Post-roll videos — upload branded intro/outro clips (MP4 or WebM) that play before/after the slow-mo output.
- Overlays — upload a transparent WebM/GIF (animated) or PNG (static) overlay with adjustable opacity.
💡 All soundtrack, overlay, and pre/post-roll effects are applied during a single preview pass. The processed preview IS the final video — no second progress bar when saving.
Step 4: Customise the Welcome Screen
The welcome screen is the first thing guests see when they approach the booth. FlayrBooth includes a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) designer to customise every element.
Opening the Welcome Screen Designer
- 1In the Event Setup tab, scroll to the Branding & Theme section.
- 2Toggle on Custom idle screen layout, then click Edit Layout.
- 3The designer opens as a fullscreen overlay with a live preview and a properties panel. Drag and resize elements freely.
Background
- Upload a custom background image (JPG or PNG) or video (MP4 or WebM)
- Or choose a gradient colour
- Adjust overlay opacity and blur for text readability
Logo
- Upload your company or event logo (PNG with transparency recommended)
- Drag it into position anywhere on the screen
- Resize as needed
Event Title
- Edit the event name text
- Change font size, colour, and position
- The title is independent of the logo — both can be positioned separately
Call-to-Action Button
- Edit the button text (default: “Tap to Begin”)
- Position the button on screen
- Choose button colour (uses your theme accent colour by default)
✅ Save when done
Click Savein the designer to apply your changes. The welcome screen updates immediately — you don't need to restart the app.
Step 5: Customise the Mode Select Screen
The Mode Select screen shows guests a grid of colourful cards for each enabled capture mode. You can customise this too.
Mode Select Designer
- Found in the Event Setup tab under Branding & Theme, next to the idle screen layout toggle. Toggle on Custom mode select layout and click Edit Layout to open the designer.
- Each mode card has a default colour (Indigo for Photo, Rose for Video, Cyan for Slow-Mo, Amber for GIF, Emerald for Boomerang).
- You can reorder which modes appear first and adjust the grid layout.
- If only one mode is enabled, this screen is skipped entirely and guests go straight to capture.
Step 6: Save and Test
Your event is configured. Let's verify everything works:
Close the dashboard
Click the Close button in the dashboard header, or press Esc if the command palette is open.
Check the welcome screen
Your event name, logo, and background should appear as configured.
Tap to begin
The mode select screen shows only the modes you enabled.
Check mode cards
Each card shows the correct mode name, icon, and colour.
